It is located in the Himalayas and bordered to the north by the People's Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. Specifically, the Indian states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim border Nepal, while across the Himalayas lies the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Nepal is separated from Bangladesh by the narrow Indian Siliguri corridor. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and largest metropolis.
The mountainous north of Nepal has eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest. It contains more than 240 peaks over 20,000 ft (6,096 m) above sea level. The southern Terai region is fertile and humid. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, is located in this region. Lumbini is one of the holiest places of one of the world's great religions, and its remains contain important evidence about the nature of Buddhist pilgrimage centres from as early as the 3rd century BC.

Kind staff all-around! Great experience! Packed a ton of activities in Oct 2023 • Friends
Our trip started with a day to acclimatize and adjust to timezones in Kathmandu. We went to the Chandragiri cable car -- which is a great first activity, especially if it's a clear day.
Then, we went for a 6-day roundtrip trek to Namche Bazaar. Our trip planner, Paras did a great job ensuring us that we had seats on the hard-to-get flight to Lukla.
Our trekking guide, Shiva, was very kind and lots of fun. We danced going over suspension bridges and played lots of card games altogether in the evening. Our porters were also incredibly kind, and we can't thank them enough.
After our trip in the mountains, we had time to add on a trip to Chitwan where we saw lots of crocodiles and rhinos. Our guide, Raj, was incredibly knowledgable.
We also did whitewater rafting and then on the last day before our flight did a city tour to many temples in Kathmandu.
Altogether, we didn't have to worry about very many logistics despite packing A LOT of stuff into a 10-day trip -- all thanks to Imperial Treks.
Nepal Introductory Tour - July 29 2017
Great tour around Nepal - Ram was great to work with and super responsive, our driver, Prakash became our good friend over the two weeks. The lodging was very good based on the available options, and we had great rooms at each stop. Basically, Prakash took us anywhere we wanted to go, while adhering to our itinerary. It was great to see so much of such a beautiful country.
Things to note outside of Ram's great tour company is that the road conditions are a bit rough, and remember to bring your own t.p. and hand soap!
